Senior Residents Can Receive $50 in Farmers Market Vouchers

Each year, the Wayne County Area Agency on Aging participates in the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program that provides vouchers to eligible seniors for the purchase of fresh, healthy and local fruits and vegetables.

The program, sponsored by the PA Department of Agriculture, is open to Wayne County residents age 60 (by Dec. 31) and older. To be eligible, seniors must be a resident of Wayne County, be at least 60 years old by the end of the year and the meet the household income guidelines, which range from $26,973 for one person to $36,482 for two people.

To receive the five $10 vouchers, seniors must complete the application, including signature and date of birth and then return it to Wayne Area Agency on Aging, 323 10th Street, Honesdale PA 18431. The applications with be processed and the vouchers will be mailed out after June 1st.

Only farmers authorized by the State Department of Agriculture may accept the vouchers. To find a farmer’s market or farm stand with eligible farmers, go to www.pafmnp.org. For a market with a phone number, please contact the market for changes to operating hours before visiting.
